Benidorm is the greatest place for the dull, (OK, maybe that was just me) English-speaking person to ease himself/herself into the Euro party scene. I was a fresh-faced Navy lieutenant (j.g.) in June 1989 when I made my debut in European society off of USS America in Benidorm. The Brits there were fabulous and my high-school and college Spanish worked fabulously well. Of course, my Spanish stunk, but the locals were very forgiving and had run across a few "Hab-low E-span-yoles" before.
