I found this on the web .... sounded like something some of you might be interested in. Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School - featuring Torchy Taboo, at the Mai Kai, this Thursday, Oct 2 (7:00) Some of my friends have been involved with Dr. Sketchy here in DC, but I haven't attended yet myself. The Event generally features burlesque performers, who will adopt 'still-life' poses, allowing those artists in the audience who brought their sketchpads to do a drawing based on a real-live burlesque poses .... all while sipping on a mai-tai. From what I've heard, its lots of fun. http://www.browardpalmbeach.com/events/dr-sketchys-anti-art-school-614696/ *We know you've got a little artist in there somewhere, yearning for wild subjects to draw. We're talking about the part of you that's dying to sketch real-life models with tattoos and bare skin, instead of those boring bowls of fruit. Well, burlesque babe extraordinaire Torchy Taboo has just the party for you. It's called Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School, and Torchy is bringing the nationwide movement to us. "In many ways, it's like a 19th century salon in that people bring an open mind and certain skills," Torchy explains. The first monthly installment of this brand-spanking-new-to-South-Florida event will take place Thursday night from 7 to 9 at the Mai-Kai Restaurant and Polynesian Show (3599 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale). Torchy promises that it isn't just an excuse to drink. There will be live burlesque performances, as well as gals in fixed poses so that all you little Picassos can get your sketch on. (Or, shall we say, get your Toulouse Lautrec at the Moulin Rouge on.) Seriously, bring a sketchpad and pencil. Or charcoal. Or pen. Or whatever other materials your little artist desires. Your paper renditions of these models might finally knock the socks off that stuffy old art teacher who said you ain't got no skills. Entry is $12 the day of the event or $10 in advance.
