OK, from scratch:
ONE specific image became the icon, the logo, and the preferred symbol of that genre, the TIKI.

OK, just got back from the Los Straightjackets show @ Moe's Alley here in Santa Cruz, (ROCKIN') and Eddy Angel has a tiki on his guitar strap, so Los Straightjackets = tiki - right...?!?

NO.....But the tiki represented on Eddie Angels guitar strap could be considered tiki! :P

You know it's really not rocket science. Either you can go along with your everyday posts, or continue to beat the already dead horse. The fact of the matter is, you can pretty much discuss hawaiiana in almost every sub topic category on TC and no one will bitch. It could go in general tiki, beyond tiki, tiki finds, collecting tiki, etc. Sven is just making a point that just because it has hawaii in it, doesn't neccessarily make it tiki style. I don't think Mehunes are tiki, I don't think pupu platters are tiki. I do consider most Coco Joes and HIP products tiki, but when it is a Coco Joes black lava Wahine, that is not tiki to me. That is a Hawaiiana piece, that would look perfectly normal in your tiki bar or collection.

I feel that Sven has been a great asset to discussions here, even though him and I have had a couple of opinionated disagreements in the past. None the less, I still respect his views. His passion and knowledge for mid century tiki discovery and preservation is immense. I enjoy reading his points of views, and how he draws out his conclusions to support his information. I don't understand why, when speaking of the whole tiki revival(revived from the heyday of mid century tiki style), that people who have had no immediate impact on the tiki revival lifestyle feel the need to aimlessly challenge someone who has spent YEARS researching and documenting, mid century tiki style?

It is one thing to have an opinion or feeling for something, its a whole other thing to have facts supporting your claims, that strengthen your arguments.

Now, who needs to buy a vowel? :D
