you can't just have a Tiki in a bar and call it a Tiki bar

You need tapa,bamboo,fishfloats,colored/moody lighting/mugs,etc...

no Tiki is an island!

the advantage of Tiki
is that it's many things to many people
ranging from heavily purist to loosey goosey...

i think alcohol is the common ingredient
which would account for both ends of the above spectrum
and the cliques in between!

except Kenny Chesney....
