I was poking around the internet ths evening and found this article on the NY Times website: "Leis and Sea Breezes, Up on the Roof"

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/07/16/dining/16LUAU.html

You have to sign-in to read it, but it is free to register.

"The tropical swelter that finally settled over Manhattan had us longing for the swaying palms and shoelessness of the islands. Rainbows may appear in the shower of a fire hydrant, but summer in the city is no Waikiki. So we decided to conjure up the flavor of Hawaii by holding an urban luau, a rooftop dinner party where the drinks were rummy, the music was slack key and the Hawaiian dishes nearly outnumbered the guests."

Hmmm...Kind of cursory on the Rum drinks, but they put out quite a spread!
