Gem- For mid-century architecture this may help: http://www.modernsandiego.com/ The Salk institute in La Jolla is one of the best examples and they offer tours. For modern furnishings Boomerang is the best store (but it's pricey) http://entertainment.signonsandiego.com/profile/114329 For dining and nightlife besides the tiki places mentioned. Great old lounges for meat and Manhattan lovers: The Turf Club: Red Fox Room: Albie's Beef Inn: Harbor View Lounge at Tom Ham's Lighthouse: For more expensive dining check out one of these landmark restaurants (unfortunately most have been redecorated but still maintain the classy night out feel). And all of them have great food. The Marine Room in La Jolla (since the 1940s) is right on the ocean - waves sometimes crash against the windows! Anthony's Star of the Sea Room Imperial House - great original decor in this Continental cuisine landmark Hope that helps! |
