Affordable California Living?? - Beyond Tiki

Its called Las Vegas! Several of my co-workers and neighbors when wrestling with cost of living etc around here resign themselves to leaving the area. Las Vegas seems to be a common destination. Many of the soulful people (not sure if soulful is the right term) who lived in California in the 50's-60's and enjoyed a free spirited and full life (i.e.- surfers who lived near the beach for next to nothing and could drive miles down empty highways for local skiing) have moved away to find that continued style of living elsewhere. They found that for the ultimate eclectic living in a relaxed environment they had to go to Oregon, or Colorado or in an extreme situation would leave to live in Costa Rica or Mexico. I doubt that affordable living exists in California anymore for anywhere that people would actually want to live (anybody seen Barstow, 29 Palms, or Palmdale lately?)
