Thanks Futura Girl. I've wondered about Ventura. I also appreciated your San Fernando Valley suggestion. I don't mind the valley at all. I have good friends in NoHo/Burbank and when we were there a couple years ago we looked around alot. We consider that area an option. I don't think Vegas is for me, but it's been many years since I was there.

Unga Bunga- no sweat. You're comments are entirely appropriate to this subject and don't bring me down in the slightest. It helps me understand why places with insane cost of living expenses remain packed to the rafters while cheap little podunk towns like mine are half empty.

My basic rule has always been to keep my cost of living as low as reasonably possible. This enables me to live my life for myself instead of for my landlord. This rule has forced me to make concessions that many other people are not willing to make, but it also allows me more free time for my family, to work for myself, and to pursue my creative endeavors. I am getting close to being able to make a living creating Tiki art. We have a very good situation here. We live 2 blocks from the beach in a cool old 2 story 4 br farmhouse in old town that we paid 70K for. Our house payments are less than rent on a studio apartment in most cities. I am also a carpenter/ remodeler and so I have always sought out areas where homes are cheap now, but are gonna be going up in the near future. It's in my blood. Portland was very good for that in the 80's and 90's. But I realise that's not so easily done in Cali, and its not the reason we are spying out new territory.

Besides the fact that we sorta enjoy pulling up stakes every few years and trying something new, We're looking for a similar kind of situation to what we have now, only closer to a larger concentration of Tikiphiles , hipsters and wannabees where I stand a better chance of meeting linkminded weirdos AND a beeter chance of selling my stuff. The internet has been great for me so far, but it has it's limits. Especially with the kind of stuff I'm doing. I can't live in an apartment. I need a garage and yard to do what I do. We just haven't connected with this place or the people here, and are looking (Tiki_Bong) for where we belong.
I appreciate everyones input.
