Does anyone have an opinion on this cheap Virgin Islands rum, say as compared to Bacardi? I've searched for previous mentions here (under St and Saint Elmo) and come up blank.

Cruzan has been recommended as a good cheap Virgin Islands substitute for Bacardi, but Bevmo seems to only carry flavored Cruzan (and the single barrel), not its basic white and gold varieties. I was previously using a bottle of Tortuga white rum from the Cayman Islands for a cheap mixer, but decided to look for something cheaper. I noticed that St. Elmo, which Bevmo carries in many sizes, is about half the price as Bacardi. However, I don't know how it stacks up to Bacardi, or to Cruzan. The price and the plastic bottles scared me off, so I went with Bacardi this time but still wonder about St. Elmo. I wonder why Bevmo doesn't stock basic Cruzan?
