Remember, the SF Tiki Crawl is a marathon, not a sprint.

First stop, Trad'r Sam.

Your Crawl Director Julie McCoy, err, Mai Tai, got the ball rolling by ordering what shall likely be the "Best Drink of SF Tiki Crawl 9" award winner. I'd vote for it, if I could.

Yes, I wanted to start the Tiki Crawl off right, and order something special. Something that you just can't get anywhere. Something that would be memorable. Something that could only be finely crafted with passion and fervor by the hands of only the most skilled of artisan bartenders. Or a blender.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to present to you: The Trad'r Sam Volcano
(please do not stare directly into the Volcano, because the magnitude of it's sheer beauty may cause you to go blind, or mad)

That drink is exactly three parts Draino to one part Orange sherbet. How it manages to taste like Children's Bayer aspirin is something I've been trying to work out the details on for years...

It's all about the measured pour, Suzanne. If you will notice, it is also the same color as a baby aspirin, so maybe you're on to something there. The Orange Sherbet part is true, photos don't lie. Mel, Jessica, and I were all in agreement that the Orange Sherbet was the most redeeming part of the drink, though. However, I was thinking that one of the secret ingredients might also be Lucky Charms, because after I finished drinking it, I was seeing pink hearts, yellow moons, orange stars, and green clovers...

It tastes even better than it looks. Much more better-er.

Well, that's an interesting comment, seeing that you never even tried a taste of it. Again, photos don't lie: note the faux-sippage of Midnite. Both here:

...and here:

Ah, baby aspirin all gone. No thanks to Midnite.

Then we head out to the Fairmont Hotel, and the Tonga Room.

Hey look, it's Tiki Bob! Note the late stragglers out front still trying to find the location to Smuggler's Cove.

Second stop, the Tonga Room.
Time to celebrate, by breaking out the long straws.

Here's how things look from my point of view.

If you thought that the Trad'r Sam Volcano was bad, then you have not tried the Tonga Room Scorpion Bowl. I think it qualifies as the worst tiki or non-tiki cocktail that I've ever had. And of course, I ordered the Scorpion for two, 'cause that's how I roll, and could find no takers to help me finish it off.

So I decided to pair the Scorpion Bowl with the lovely buffet.

Everyone was having a good time. If you have not wandered around the inside of the Tonga Room, then you need to do that, poste haste, because the place is amazing inside, even with the recent refurbishments.

Let this be a warning: whatever you do, don't order the Fizzy Lifting Drink!

Time to head out to our last official San Francisco stop:
The Bamboo Hut

Oh hey, look, a tray full of shots!

Hey, Frank, let's drink 'em!

Careful, if you drink too many, you'll start seeing Unga Bungas!

And then the room will start spinning.

Sailor Jerry is soooo rad!

What's that? It's too early to turn in? And there's another tiki bar right around the corner? Well, let's make an unofficial stop at Hawaii West!

Vic leans in to give Unga a smooch...

...then starts singing Freebird. Or was it "Hold me closer, Tony Danza"?

But soothing sounds of his voice lands us a new Tiki Crawl recruit.

Wow, for the slowest night of the Tiki Crawl, we had a pretty good turnout! Good times!

Friday

First Stop: Smoke Tiki Lounge

Second stop: Lost Tiki Island bar at Top Notch Kustomz

Third stop: Trader Vic's Palo Alto

Meshuggah Beach Party blowin' the roof off the joint!

Much Mahaloz to Servanne at Trader Vic's Palo Alto, who helped us plan out such a fantastic night!

Then it's back on the bus, to zip us back to the exotic Island of Alameda!

Oh wait, what was that you say? Forbidden Island is still open?!? Well, time for a night cap!

South Bay Friday is now officially over!

East Bay Saturday
