Swanky you are incorrect, oke is very old. Captnkirk, King Kamehameha banned alcohol distillation in the 1800s; the U.S. Federal government banned it in 1918. It was indeed illegal to make your own oke before statehood; remember, Hawaii was a U.S. territory before statehood, subject to U.S. laws imposed by the Federal government.
