I think for a place like the Luau to survive in Beverly Hills in this economy is nearly impossible. The food was good but not great, and at those prices with dozens of restaurants with better food nearby in BH and especially W. Hollywood they couldn't survive. I liked the decor and atmosphere so it's a shame the place closed. But no amount of Tiki Centralites could keep that place going. They need the general public. When I was there on a Saturday it was almost filled with obviously well-heeled patrons. It's probable that the people who were there checked it out, then moved on to the next new tony BH hotspot. I'm mostly sorry for Ben and the Beachbum because I know they put a lot of work into the place.
