I hope and pray I am never a crime victim and however ever improbable I hope a mountain lion never jumps in my window either and tries to eat me. I was a boy scout and our motto was "Be Prepared". I also hope I am never in a serious traffic accident, but I wear my seat belt 100% of the time to insure my safety in case it happens, not because I'm some "right wing demolition derby nut" out looking for an accident. Guns are not some tool it takes a life time of combat training to master. When I was younger I shot trap and skeet. I hit a target the size of an ashtray flying at over 50 mph and I could do it better than 20 out of 25 times the first time on the range. My children have never seen or handled a real firearm, however thanks to the Nintendo Wii I am sure if I gave them a real shotgun they already have the needed skills to hit a target at close range with it.
