I unexpectedly ran into, and lived on, Lars Ulrich's (Metallica's drummer/manager/despised anti-file sharing zealot) berber carpeting. A couple cottage rentals ago, I lived in a cottage owned by the personal handyman contractor to Lars. Lars had a huge mansion in Tiburon (where all the rock stars hang...) and my landlord had installed some new all-wool, insanely thick & plush off-white carpeting in a room of the manse. Lars returns from touring, doesn't like like it and tells him to get rid of it. He promptly tears it out and uses it to carpet my future bedroom. I have to say, without a lick of sarcasm, that it was the greatest carpet my feet have ever, uh, befelt? Musta cost like $300/sq yard. I didn't adopt any rock star-like behaviours due to my proximity, though. And to whoever mentioned their sorry experience upon meeting Shag, I second it. Your assessment was dead-on: When I was introduced to him, he looked like I just peed on his shoes, too, and behaved as if I had interrupted him (which I hadn't - I was introduced). You'd think someone with his good fortune, mediocre artistic abilities, & pseudo hipster cred who goes all the way to a remote tiki event to sell his "art" would be a little, I dunno, gracious? Guess not. |
