Tam, I have a basement here in Allentown but I already turned that into a rugby pub so I too have a converted patio (now an enclosed tiki room) that house my tiki bar. As far as your wife goes, pack her off to a relaives for long weekend "getaway" and then spend the time converting the patio. When she gets home it will look awesome.
