Years ago an appliance repairman said "NEVER run a dishwasher when you aren't home". So Enid always followed that advice. I often thought she was being too cautious with me thinking "come on, what are the chances of anything bas happening". I still don't know the chances, but I certainly will NEVER run the washer when no one is around!
Secondly-if the top floor is flooding, maybe it is leaking to the lower floor(S).
