How about a thread where you post non-tiki videos you like, and maybe explain why you like them?

I'll start out with D'Angelo. No, I don't like hip hop much, but this guy plays entirely live, and has obvious talent. That bass player is probably one of the most sought after bassists in the world, Pino Palladino...his tone is what appeals to me, and the style he is playing is something Raphael Saadiq, D'Angelo and Pino cooked up: Playing with a huge amount of time lag in their rythem..in other worlds, playing extremely behind the beat. You would not think playing off- tempo would make for really funky music, but it does. It's remnicent of some of the early art-rap music (Tribe called quest, etc)where the samples did'nt always line up properly, and sounded a bit disjointed. It's a hard technique for a great musician to purposely play off-tempo, but when done properly...it totally works!
