How about a thread where you post non-tiki videos you like, and maybe explain why you like them? I'll start out with D'Angelo. No, I don't like hip hop much, but this guy plays entirely live, and has obvious talent. That bass player is probably one of the most sought after bassists in the world, Pino Palladino...his tone is what appeals to me, and the style he is playing is something Raphael Saadiq, D'Angelo and Pino cooked up: Playing with a huge amount of time lag in their rythem..in other worlds, playing extremely behind the beat. You would not think playing off- tempo would make for really funky music, but it does. It's remnicent of some of the early art-rap music (Tribe called quest, etc)where the samples did'nt always line up properly, and sounded a bit disjointed. It's a hard technique for a great musician to purposely play off-tempo, but when done properly...it totally works! |

Darius Rucker. I never liked Hootie and The Blowfish, and I rarely like contemporary country music, but when the two mix...the results seem to really work! Darius' voice seems really suited for this genre. |

Jimi Hendrix First TV Appearance 1965 Jimi's first TV appearance as a back up player for "Buddy & Stacey" singing Shot Gun, on a show called Night Train. The guitar player next to him must be the band leader because you can see how pissed off he was getting by Jimi's antics. |

An example of why he is The King. The greatest voice in country music. A sentimental favorite, this was GROG' first song GROG remember hearing of Eddie Arnold's. At nearly 60 years old he makes a comeback and has a number one hit: Cowboy. The Number 1 hit in 1976 by Eddy Arnold. This video make GROG tear up every time: This one speaks for itself: |

Juan De La Cruz band: Veteran Filipino rock band from the 70's. Obviously influenced by new york bands like the New york dolls, ramones, etc...It always amazes me how much Drummer Pepe Smith looks like Willem Dafoe! |

Carl Orff.... Yeah, this the theme has been overused in a million different movies, but I always find it delightfully chilling! |

For me a music video, much like cheese and crackers, must combine two things well: Music and video. And each element should be great if I am going to say "Wow, that's a great music video!" (OK, maybe I'll accept "pretty good" music depending on my mood, but the video part has to be great. Otherwise it's just a pretty good song that happens to be on a video.) Here are some great music videos... Chromatic Nights by Pia Fraus Blue Dragon by Hot Lava Ordinary Song by the Little Ones |

I can't figure out how I know this Guster song so well. Maybe it was used in a TV ad? Maybe I have a secret life I'm unaware of and it's more pop than me. However it found its way into the back of my brain what's important is it made me find the swell video. Satellite by Guster |

The Magic Numbers have a really great song Take A Chance which has a video with some interesting elements in it. Their NEW! single The Pulse is a somewhat overwrought ballad (sounds like music for A Very Special Scene in an indie flick) but the video is really well made with some very attractive shots and a couple head reeling ones. |

If you're an old fart like me, you might remember Terry Reid. He was the first choice to be Led Zeppelins lead singer, but he bowed out and suggested his friend Robert P. instead. [ Edited by: drgoat456 2010-06-21 15:21 ] [ Edited by: drgoat456 2010-06-21 15:22 ] |

Music from my youth: Goth before goth was goth. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zq7xyjU-jsU One of the greatest dance songs of all time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkfzXq0tA3c Have always had a weakness for Grace: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08A90DyfOjY This video isn't all that great except for getting to see Peter Murphy, Trent Reznor, Geordie White and Atticus Ross perform together, doing one of the greatest club songs of the '80s (though it was actually a '78 release). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zo7ONZlN5Zg My muse. One of the greatest performance artists of our generation. I've seen her perform on several occasions and I'm awestruck every time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZkjoXyexKk [ Edited by: phinz 2010-06-21 19:51 ] |

All awesome! I was actually searching Nina Hagen/Lene Lovich videos and got sidetracked by Laurie. Fear is one of the greatest punk bands ever. Did you realize that Lee Ving was in the 1987 movies Dudes with Jon Cryer, Daniel Roebuck, Catherine Mary Stewart and Flea (as well as playing Mr. Body in the Tim Curry movie Clue)? He did an awesome job playing Missoula. Dude. Somebody just stepped on my head. You can't have any Nina without some Klaus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zo7ONZlN5Zg And you can't have Fear without Cro-Mags: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zo7ONZlN5Zg For good measure, let's inject some Exploited to go with the Black Flag: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULYNDknBshw And some real Old School punk: |

This video for Martin Denny's Quiet Village is brilliant! Yeah, I'm sure it's been done before, but it just works great with this piece of music. |
