The Samoans were a very peculiar race of people...Outside of the period during which they were occupied by the Tongans (1200 to 1600 AD, when they were finally expelled), they had absolutely no "figural" carving traditions whatsoever....they were strictly, unabashedly warriors and storytellers. Hence the only artifactual legacy that remains of the original, indigenous Samoan people are a small surviving number of their weapons...very simple, but very effective and dignified.
