They can definitely coexist! A lot of people who buy my paintings and prints put them up in their kids rooms. Also, my hanging driftwood tiki birds, people have put in their kids rooms. I'm not trying to sell you anything, but just letting you know that others have done it!

Just don't make the room too crazy with colors, room color can greatly affect the mood and behavior of a kid... well, anyone. I'm sure there's websites to research that better.

Also, thatch and matting is not fire proof, so you don't want anything that would catch fire quickly.
