Thanks 5150, Benzart you have kind words as always, Amate the wood for this latest tiki is maple. He is actually the second half of a log I used on an earlier tiki. Maple seems to check out a lot more and has been more of a pain to carve. I didn't want to waste the log and as it turned out parts of this maple had spalted which left a really unique type of grain on his left arm. Thanks laojia and amate about the comments regarding my style. I have really liked and tried to use so many ideas that I have seen from all of you, but have struggled to develop my own ideas as well. This last guy turned out to be a present for my mom and dad. They have a pool with a waterfall. I wanted to make them a unique Christmas present. I thought I might add a fish to bottom of the pole but struggled to find one. I thought a shoe (flipflop) might be funnier anyway. My uncle (we were all very fond of him)has just recently passed so I thought I would also dedicate it to him. The present went over very well.
Thanks for looking |
