Preparing Palm Logs?!?!?! - Tiki Carving

I second what Aloha and McTiki said. I picked up some palm logs today. Even thought they were cut just hours before, when I got home, I sliced another inch off the bottom and stood them on end. I figure it's similar to when you buy flowers, you're supposed to give the ends a fresh snip before they go into the vase water. I have them standing on keystone gravel, vs the end standing on damp ground, etc.
