Sorry to resurrect this old thread.
As demerara rum isn't available in these parts I was curious as to whether Select can indeed be used as a substitute for demerara in pinch. So for kicks & giggles I bought a 200ml (roughly a half pint) of Bacardi Select when I was picking up some Senior Orange CuraƧao last week. Well last night I used the Select in a Navy Grog in place of my go to demerara and I reluctantly have to admit that it was damn tasty. While not quite as deep and complex as my usual El Dorado 5year, the Select was nonetheless very good indeed. I think that I might use Select in place of demerara in an pinch (like when I'm out of demerara and waiting for another shipment from Sam's Wine & Spirits), or when I'm making drinks for a large party where cost is a concern.
Just my two cents.
Given the drought of Lemon Hart, I've switched over to Barcardi Select as a sub for Lemon Hart 80. So far, my drinks have not seemed to suffer. Still, I can't wait to get some El Dorado soon.
Is anyone else using Bacardi Select at this time?
