Being in the U.S., I hadn't any exposure to the Hula Hawaiians as, unlike the Waikikis, their music didn't seem to filter into the U.S. I came across a cassette of theirs at at a used record shop some years ago while living in Portland and thought they were AWESOME..although for some reason I had thought they were German. Since then, I've gotten a few LPs of their from Ebay, again, as I NEVER seen to actually SEE any of their LPs in any record shops. But, if anyone is interested, I absolutely HIGHLY recommend the Bear Family CD compilation put out a few years ago. it has 30-something tracks on it & i just love their European-style (German, really) ATTACK on the steel guitar..very aggressive & unlike the melodious Native Hawaiian style. It's a great listen.
