Sombreros off to Baby Doe and Otto for another amazing Tiki Oasis event. We had the best time yet. The theme was wonderful and the Herb Alpert music brought back a flood of memories as my parents played it all the time.
I hate to rant on TC but I just have to put my 2 cents in here.
My boyfriend and I are in the camp that feel children present during the burlesque acts is inappropriate. Regardless of whether the parents feel it is healthy to expose their kids to this it is generally considered socially unacceptable. It makes most of us adults uncomfortable and dampens our experience. If this were a more commercialized event I'm fairly certain that would never fly. More importantly, it is not fair to the performers who probably rarely have to deal with this except at Oasis. I wonder if they have to temper their acts because of the very obvious handful of kids staring right up their crotches. This topic has been bantered around after every Oasis and these parents continue to ignore these concerns which in my opinion is incredibly rude. It's Tiki Oasis, not Woodstock.
Despite this one thorn we could not have had a better time.
Aloha and mahalo to all the organizers and volunteers who work so hard.
