I was just in Vegas a few weeks ago for the Las Vegas Shakedown fest. Stayed 2 nights at the Golden Nugget, 2 nights at the El Cortez Cabana Suites, then after a few days in Arizona, came back for one more night at the Cosmopolitan before flying home. Golden Nugget rooms were nice and the pool area is pretty swank, complete with a water slide that goes through a huge shark tank. Gambling was okay, but the drinks were just so so and the buffet is pretty mediocre. El Cortez was nice, although the room pictured in this thread is a suite - the standard rooms are smaller. I had a ground floor room, which wasn't a big deal. The room did have a strange smell though. That was the only negative. The casino was very smoky, but I didn't gamble much there and it's completely separate from the Cabana Suites. The Cosmo was amazing - free wifi throughout the hotel, "Art-O-Mats" (converted cigarette machines that now dispense locally produced art for $5), and several mixology bars where they comp $14 drinks if you play video poker. Don't order Polynesian drinks though - they have trouble making them, but there are 12-15 choices on their drink menus, all of which were quite tasty.

It was a quick 5 minute drive from downtown to Frankie's, but since I drove, I could only have a couple of drinks. Downtown has some great bars, including the Griffin and Downtown Cocktail Bar.
