Stay in Downtown, it's much closer to Frankie's and the Neon Boneyard than the Strip. Also MUCH better value and gaming odds (if that's your thing)... http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=30590&forum=1&start=0&208 For best value, I'd recommend the El Cortez (or the groovy El Cabana Suites across the street). The newly refurbished Gold Spike is also fantastic value but some of my friends are horrified by the type of people who stay there (hey, I stay there !!) Mid-week you can get some pretty "Modern" but basic rooms for $40 per night. Request rooms in the Tower there, not the adjacent Pool "wing". Both the Gold Spike and the El Cortez are a short stroll to the world famous Fremont Street. If you want to stay under the canopy and pay more money, the Golden Nugget (especially the new Rush Tower) provides luxury rooms on par with some of best on the Strip (but at low to mid-tier Strip prices). If you do visit the Strip, the Cosmopolitan is a pretty impressive place. And if you MUST stay on the Strip, the historic Tropicana has been recently renovated. I'll be in London on Aug 8-10. Where should I stay there ??? :) Any Tiki ?? [ Edited by: JOHN-O 2011-07-20 09:14 ] |

The golden nugget is the nicest hotel in downtown vegas. i stayed at the tropicana 3 years ago the room the initially gave me was filthy but they switched me to a room in another tower that had already been renovated. i've also stayed in bally's this summer while not having been renovated in a long time our room was well maintained. we had an amazing view of the pool & eifel tower at paris and the fountains at the belaggio from our room window. unfortunately the hallways were dark and grimy and full of discarded room service carts. usually i stay at the orleans which is off the strip but has free shuttle service to and from the strip from 9-midnight. |

Tahiti Village is far from Frankies-approximately a 20-30 buck cab ride one way(plus tip!). It is mostly a time share place. I have never checked out the grounds, so I can't speak about whether it is nice or not. Don't stay at Tahiti Village. My two cents! (or Pence) |

Tahiti Village is on the other side of the airport, in an area apparently zoned for apts, condos & timeshares. Yes, they do have shuttles. The tropical architecture is most apparent in the lobby, the giant A Frame over the Dennys and in the Tahiti Joe's restaurant. I did not stay there, however. Without a car, I would say better to Taxi there and stay Downtown on the Strip, where one can walk places. The Flamingo has a very chill vibe, particularly at the pool, and is walking distance to many hotels, and for those which are not in walking distance, the monorail is across the street, behind Bally's. |

The rooms at the El Cortez (actually the whole place) were renovated several years ago. It's not a smokey dump anymore. The Tower rooms there are some of the best in Downtown (excluding Golden Nugget of course). Also their boutique wing across the street, The Cabana Suites is almost the same price as the hotel casino proper. |

El Cortez is my favourite! First time we stayed we got a room on the top floor with a balcony. I had real trouble getting the door open but managed it - was a fantastic view and a great place to relax with a beer before heading out to Firefly or Frankies! We stayed again last year and I requested - and got - the same room, but the balcony door had been fixed up so it couldn't be opened at all - sad. Next time I'm booking us into Plaza, as I'm sure it'll be a great place to stay once renovated, and it has balconies! And the added convenience of Firefly right on site :o) mmmm those fries, and the sangria! |

El Cortez is sold out or has a long minimum right before NYE. |

We stayed at the Golden Gate. Very cheap rooms. Small, but, it's just a place to sleep. And the tables had good minimums and odds. Plus go-go dancers! |

I was just in Vegas a few weeks ago for the Las Vegas Shakedown fest. Stayed 2 nights at the Golden Nugget, 2 nights at the El Cortez Cabana Suites, then after a few days in Arizona, came back for one more night at the Cosmopolitan before flying home. Golden Nugget rooms were nice and the pool area is pretty swank, complete with a water slide that goes through a huge shark tank. Gambling was okay, but the drinks were just so so and the buffet is pretty mediocre. El Cortez was nice, although the room pictured in this thread is a suite - the standard rooms are smaller. I had a ground floor room, which wasn't a big deal. The room did have a strange smell though. That was the only negative. The casino was very smoky, but I didn't gamble much there and it's completely separate from the Cabana Suites. The Cosmo was amazing - free wifi throughout the hotel, "Art-O-Mats" (converted cigarette machines that now dispense locally produced art for $5), and several mixology bars where they comp $14 drinks if you play video poker. Don't order Polynesian drinks though - they have trouble making them, but there are 12-15 choices on their drink menus, all of which were quite tasty. It was a quick 5 minute drive from downtown to Frankie's, but since I drove, I could only have a couple of drinks. Downtown has some great bars, including the Griffin and Downtown Cocktail Bar. |

We stayed at the Tahiti Village at the bottom of the strip (beyond the airport) and it was very clean and nice with a few decent tiki decorations too,Went to Tahiti joes one night for food and a drink but neither were that good,So next night was at Frankies tiki room and what a cool place it was great music a very knowledgable bartender(mike)great drinks and mugs and well designed (some modern bars dont get it right this does)The only downside for us was the smoking,Apart from that 10 out of 10 |

I have since heard that Tahiti Village has an awesome pool and "river". But it is still far from the main strip action, far from Frankies and even farther to Downtown (Fremont Street Experience). |
