I would say your Polynesian theme decore makes it easier. Bamboo or thatch are probably not that good of sound insulators but the would be good at hiding real sound insulators. I don't know anything about sound insulation, my first thought was styrofoam. But a little web research told me that styrofoam was a crappy sound insulator. Looks like rigid fiberglass board is better, about $1.25/sq. ft. for 2 inch thickness.
