According to Ted Haigh (Dr. Cocktail)
"Along with Champagne Cocktail, the oldest cocktail still made the same way it was 145 years ago".

the Manhattan

2 1/2 oz rye or Bourbon
1 oz sweet vermouth (or,for a so called perfect Manhattan 1/2 oz each dry and sweet vermouth)
2 dashes Angostura bitters

combine with iced mixing glass. Stir, and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry or a twist or
both.

I am having one with rye right now and it is good.
