Howzit Whystler
When I made my first 3 part mold I had no clue to what I was doing, mauitiki explained it to me but wasn't sure about it all.. I just researched it through google, here on TC, youtube and finally said "Shoots.. I can do this!!"
Once I have my sculpt completed and the bottom looks like how I want my mug bottom to look like when finished I make my bottom for the mug first by wrapping clay around the bottom rim, start maybe about 1/2" to 1" above the bottom and make a round fencing around it maybe about 3" deep.. I then coat the inside of the dish I now mae with mold release and mix my plaster and pour it in so it's about 2" deep of plaster..
Let that harden then remove your clay, you should have something like whats in the picture below.. After that it's basically just keeping that piece on while you make the other two parts like a normal 2 piece mold.. Be sure to cut some notches with a coin or something in the bottom mold you poured to keep it in the correct place and use mold release on it as well...
Sorry wish I had more pics for you.. Here's the first one I ever made..

Aloha And Good Luck!
