Top Tiki Bars Around Philadelphia
June 6, 2013 7:00 AM

Tiki bars are the essence of summer. Tropical drinks, a beach-like feel and Polynesian decor are their primary characteristics. They offer an escape to an exotic location without the expense of flying. Unfortunately, Philadelphia hasn’t had a full-fledged tiki bar since Pub Tiki closed in 1977 and Konai Kai followed in 1985. There are still, however, many options for the tiki-like experience of outdoor seating and Caribbean drinks in and around Philly. So, before Duke’s Surf Bar finds the funds to open, here are the top tiki bars close to the area.

Silk City Diner
435 Spring Gardent St.
Philadelphia, PA 19123
(215) 592-8838
http://www.silkcityphilly.com

Silk City Diner is a diner, dance club and outdoor beer garden all working out of one classic diner car built in 1952. The beer garden was added in 2007 after new ownership and is 3,000 square feet, allowing for plenty of room to roam around or enjoy the night sky from your seat. The best part about Silk City is that it also has an actual tiki bar outside made of faux bamboo. The garden is surrounded by a wrought-iron gate and lights strung around the area brighten up the place at night. Silk City also offers multiple cocktails made up of rum and tequila, as well as an extensive beer list.

Manayunk Brewery & Restaurant
4120 Main St.
Philadelphia, PA 19127
(215) 482-8220
http://www.manayunkbrewery.com

Manayunk Brewery & Restaurant, which is located in an old wool and cotton mill that was part of the Manayunk manufacturing boom of the 1800s, has a tiki bar outside on its dock that overlooks the Schuylkill River. The menu here is full of options, from fish to burgers to pizza, and there’s an extensive cocktail list with many tropical drinks. The Brewery brews its own beer here, and those are the only selections available on tap. Along with the outside tiki bar, Manayunk Brewery & Restaurant also has many other places to sit and relax, including the jazz room and the upper deck.

Romarcos Italian Restaurant
451 E. Baltimore Ave.
Clifton Heights, PA 19018
(610) 626-7414
http://www.facebook.com/Romarcositalianrestaurant

Romarcos Italian Restaurant, located eight miles away from the center of Philadelphia in Clifton Heights, has an outdoor patio and tiki bar. Come here for happy hour and have one of the bartenders create a tropical cocktail to put you in an island mood. The live music will keep you entertained as you enjoy the summer air. Romarcos serves many Italian dishes, including an assortment of pastas, sandwiches and seafood. While Romarcos has coupons floating around for discounts on food and beverages, unfortunately, they do not include alcohol.

Villari’s Lakeside
2375 Sicklerville Road
Sicklerville, NJ 08081
(856) 228-5244
http://www.villarislakeside.com

Villari’s Lakeside is located in Sicklerville, NJ — about 25 minutes away from the center of Philadelphia. The outside bar is decorated with island decor and features a thatched-hut roof along with 360-degree seating, creating the ultimate tiki experience. If you’re hungry, small bites and appetizers are served. The beverage list is extensive with tropical cocktails, beer and wine. Live music is performed five days a week for those wishing to dance. Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. is happy hour, where $2 beers and $3 cocktails are the norm.

Tiki Bar At Spring Mountain
757 Spring Mount Road
Spring Mount, PA 19478
(610) 287-3233
http://www.tikibarpa.com

Tiki Bar at Spring Mountain is open every day from May through September starting at 4 p.m. It offers a selection of raw meats (including alligator tail!), vegetables and kabobs that you cook yourself on one of its many grills. Fake palm trees, Caribbean-themed trinkets and thatched huts make up the Tiki Bar’s perfect tropical vibe. Located in the Spring Mountain ski area, the Tiki Bar allows for enjoying an outdoor picnic in a wooded environment. It also has an excellent view down the slope of the mountain and is a great place for a large group, or even for a two-person date. Don’t forget to try the hurricanes, the Tiki Bar’s signature drink.
