I don't know bro, looking at the colors on that birdie, looks like a burled up piece of aromatic cedar, and it would probably finish in a SPECTACULAR manner... I think that if you did a little maori panel carve on it, and then sanded it to like 220 & poly'ed it, it might blow your mind... this is a piece of cedar I sanded & poly'ed for a buddy a few months ago to make a little table... just something to think about....
