H10, I thought about trying my hand at carving some time ago and finally started the chips flying bout a week ago.
My goal is to create a Marquesan style tiki 37" tall x 10" or so. I picked up a 4’ x 12’ piece of palm lying in a field behind Toucans tiki lounge in Palm Springs a couple of weeks ago. No rot, no Splits. I debarked it carefully with a demo saw and was ready to start when I got cold feet. Did not want to wreck a really nice piece of palm so i decided to “learn” on some shorter 12-15’ dia. well dried chunks I have been procrastinating on.
Anyway, I was very pleased with the progress I was making so far and then I made the error of checking out your 18 pages from start to present. Your skills were apparent from the beginning and just got better and better. This is inspirational to this novice and also very intimidating and daunting. I’m gonna keep at it and only hope mine are half as nice as yours.
Keep the chips flying Jon!
