In truth, the idea to use catholic art in one room of our house wasn't a religeous (or anti-religeous) statement. It came out of the idea of cutural appropriation, which was being discussed in a series of art history classes we took.

Ultimately we decided that rather than go the pc route and feel bad that we were appropriating polynesian culture for home decor, that we should balance things and appropriate from different cultures for different rooms.

And since catholic art is often beautiful, and since we're no more catholic than we're tahitian, it seemed like a good choice.

Eventually - the hallway connecting the Catholic themed bathroom to the Adventureland/Polynesian themed living room will be decorated in a carribbean voodoo/catholic style.
It seemed like a nice transition.
