Hello Tiki Central.

I am not only a new member of TC, but fairly new to posting in a forum, so please forgive any etiquette mistakes.

I found TC while searching for images of tiki bars and dreaming of the day I can serve up a colorfully garnished tiki drink from behind my own bar. There are some truly awesome home bar pics posted. The talent, creativity and tiki knowledge found here is incredible. I have learned so much.

I have loved all things Polynesian since my parents brought home for me some shell leis and a grass skirt from Hawaii about 35 years ago. I was also enchanted by the exotic atmosphere at local restaurants: the Lanai and the Castaway. Too bad I was too young to drink then (legally, that is…).

Back in the old days my friends had posters of their favorite long-haired rock idols on the walls of their rooms, while I displayed a collection of seashells, paper drink umbrellas, Hawaiian postcards and a giant palm tree my mom & I made out of cardboard tubes, brown paper bags, wire hangers and a green tablecloth.

Now finally at 40+ish, I am currently working on my own small outdoor bar. I started on it last summer, but it got damaged by the sun, wind & rain. I am working on reviving it and hope to post pics as I am sure I will be needing advice. It’s pretty small and improvised as I have no construction skills, but as long as it’s sturdy enough to hold a bowl of Scorpion Punch, it’s going to be ok.

‘Til then – Mahalo & Aloha,
Scorp.
