I finally came to my senses, and thought — since I'm spending all this time to get the lighting just right, shouldn't I really be getting the walls and the decor around the nook right first, so I can see how the light plays off of them?

There's only so much I can do with these stupid ducts, or the lumpiest concrete floor that was ever poured (since we're renting), but this nice base coat of brown (Behr "Coffee Beans" in eggshell) is going to be the base layer for all of the other wall coverings and trim to go on top of. Good thing I did this now, too, because this brown really sucks up the light.

I also started listening to The Quiet Village Podcast from the very beginning, to mark my work hours. Last night, episodes 1 though 6 got me through cleaning to the first coat of paint on the walls. Tonight, episodes 7–11 got me through the second coat, and painting the trim (Behr "Chocolate Therapy" in semi-gloss).

It feels worlds better than with those ugly white walls in here already. Thanks for the work music, Digitiki!
