Get yourself a bottle of the Clement VSOP--a gold Martinique rum makes for a damn good Mai Tai. Clement pairs well with Appleton 12-year which brings us to: The Black Blended category... Appleton 12 year is an excellent choice, but Coruba or Myers work great as well. Pampero is a good sipper but too sweet for mixing and the flavor gets lost. Blackwell is terrific as well, if you have access to it. It has its own, drier character though, I wouldn't only rely on it as a black blended mixing rum. Check out Appleton offerings in general--the Signature and Reserve are staples of the Mai Kai. Your rum collection looks pretty solid overall |
