You have lots of options to hang lights from those can lights in the ceiling.

An up light right behind that tiki at bottom of steps would be cool.

Also these are nice for your artwork on the wall, not really tiki but hey they add cool lighting.
I would say get lights like this that you can dim.
You can buy and add inline dimmers for each light and dim them as needed.
