Bamboo Slats versus Half Rounds - Home Tiki Bars

It's been a very long time since I've posted on here. After dismantling my home bar about four years ago, when I moved into a new house, I am finally getting into the planning stages of converting my garage and building a new bar. I plan to do the walls in a pretty traditional way, with about 3 feet of bamboo on the bottom and about 5 feet of Luahala matting above. As I'm researching I'm trying to figure out if I would be better off using bamboo slats or half round poles for the lower part of the walls. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
