ummm....does that mean that this teacher exposed students to toxic chemicals by letting them carve into a "utility pole"?

That would be creosote, ever wonder why ants or termites don't eat every telephone pole? They dip them in this toxic nasty stuff so nothing will eat them.

If you carve a telephone pole with any tool that will generate heat or friction some creosote will be vaporized and you will breath it.
