I'm returning to California in less than two weeks, primarily for the TCM Classic Film Festival, but I'm also going to try to squeeze in as much tiki as possible. This is a solo trip, so if anybody's in the area and wants to keep me from drinking alone, feel free to PM me and we'll see if we can meet up. I don't have all my plans finalized, but here's what I'm thinking so far: Saturday, 4/6, I fly into Orange County. Sunday morning, 4/7, I'm heading down to San Juan Capistrano to see the mission, followed (maybe) by the Ocean Institute. On the way back north I'm considering brunch at Billy's at the Beach, and maybe a stop at Jan & Dean's Tiki Lounge, but ultimately I want to make it to The Bamboo Club in Long Beach. Monday, 4/8, and Tuesday, 4/9, I'll be at Disneyland (with at least one, but likely two, stops at Trader Sam's). Wednesday, 4/10, I head to LA. I'm planning to visit Tonga Hut for the first time that evening. Tiki-Ti's website says April's calendar has yet to be finalized, but I'm assuming they'll be closed for their Spring Break. If not, I'll stop there, too. Thursday, 4/11, is tricky. That evening is the start of the TCMFF, but it's also the best night for me to check out Clifton's and Pacific Seas. I haven't decided if it'll be when it opens, so I can head back to Hollywood for a late showing, or see a movie first and then head downtown. Friday, 4/12, Saturday, 4/13, and Sunday, 4/14, is packed, but my hotel is stumbling distance from Lono, so I may end a night (or two) there first. Monday, 4/15, I return to Colorado. I'm open to other suggestions. Not sure if I can make it to Damon's (but I might shoot for lunch Wednesday), and I'm wondering if Tiki No is worth a stop. |
