The carved and bent seat deck is amazing. One thing you might consider doing instead of a flat wooden deck that would definitely lend a bit more comfort would be to use upholstery webbing. It's a very high density rubber/nylon "seatbelt" like material that, when tensioned properly and installed with upholstery staples, provides a very nice seat. (I used to work in the furnishings business).
