I do like your eye for detail and I don't think the hands are going to be an issue worth fixing--any attempt to make them closer together will likely make matters worse. Have you carved pressure treated lumber before? Make sure you're wearing a filter mask and try not to let the sawdust (if power carving) settle on exposed skin. They don't use arsenic anymore in this stuff but you still want to limit exposure.
