Back then domain names were really expensive and that site never generated any revenue (wasn't meant to). So Geocities got the job done at my price point of "free". I remember once when PLAYBOY gave the web site props in print(!) they had to print this long complicated Geocities URL. I think they needed the whole back side of the centerfold to print a URL that long.
