Thank you hang10tiki and danlovestikis for the birthday wishes!
My sister in law is the librarian at a local elementary school, she has requested a volcano display so here we go!
Started with a 2x3 foot piece of plywood and built a 3 foot frame on top of it. It will sit in a corner and represent 1/4 of a volcano.
The 8 inch cardboard tube in the center holds a clear punchbowl that will be the caldera. A red spotlight inside the tube will make it glow.
The frame was covered in chicken wire
And the frame covered with burlap dipped in Monster Mud (4 parts wallboard compound and 1 part latex paint)
Now to start some detailing. This waterfall is made from 2 pieces of glazed ceramic. It will hold it's color for 1000 years and is strong enough to be kid resistant (nothing in kid proof!)
