I got a couple wood carving screws on Amazon:

Screw the tapered end into the bottom of the wood I want to carve

Got a large 3x3 block of oak, cut to 12 in

Drilled 1/2 in and 11/16 in holes in the oak for the 2 sizes of carving screws

Place oak in vise, attach wood to carve

Small block of wood on the bottom

Ready to carve

When ya need to turn the carving, loosen the wing nut and turn, tighten it and keep carving
