I think this whole conversation is funny! I don't understand what the big deal is; am I missing something? Every artist is influenced by everthing they've ever seen. People have been copying other's artwork and putting their own (sometimes unintentional) spin on it since the dawn of time. It's healthy and normal and that's how art evolves. Isn't that how young artists learn; and isn't that how kitsch was born?

What would we have missed if Disney and his artists hadn't borrowed from Polynesia to create the tiki room?... and ditto for the whole American tiki movement!

Everyone is influenced by everything. Has anyone heard the quote, 'nothing is truly original'?

Of course trying to create a forgery is another thing, but I don't see that happening very often.
