Yea, Alameda is a '50s suburban oasis, no question, and not in a Johnny Rocket's retro-chain-restaurant kinda way, but the real deal (too bad that big movie theater downtown is a gym now!) I'd love to live over there, but Monica digs the more urban scene of Piedmont Ave., and the Tiki Goddess rules my world. Not that I'm complaining.

Looks like we won't be moving anytime soon anyway - we were interested in moving upstairs from Otto's duplex, but it's outside our budget (as they officially informed us!), which is too bad - we would've made that place a Tiki Graceland West. Imagine the parties! But we're pretty much finished refurbishing our current pad, which is now like a mini-theme motel, with a Space Age office/guest room, Art Deco music/dining room, 50s kitchen, two bathrooms, and best of all - my brand new B Movie Tiki Lounge, open for business. Drop by sometime, but let me know first, in case I'm lying on the couch watching a dirty old movie when you knock on the door...

For those who live in Oakland, by the way, don't take any crap off your landlords, either - the law is on our side! Check out the Just Cause ordinance and if your landlord pulls any Nazi jazz on you, rub this in their face, as I did, with relish (via our attorney, natch):

Anyway, what was this topic again? Oh yea, Mexico. Loved it. By the way, that Mexican 50s rock n roll band I was talking about is called "The Crazy Rhythmers," and one of their covers is "Pedro Pistolas" - aka "Peter Gunn," and it is awesome, must have inspired Poison Ivy's (of the Cramps)version decades later.
