Neither does my dad who, back in the day, frequented many Polynesian clubs and burlesque clubs (he dated Lilly Christine, the Cat Girl.). He says they were absolutely not the same thing, though there were burlesque dancers who performed in grass skirts. And I'm pretty darn sure most kumu hula would be offended at having their craft compared or connected to burlesque. Myself, I would rather have seen more Mai Kai Gents and Smokin' Menehunes than burleasque.
