Hi TikiCutie - I remember you from last year's crawl! I look forward to seeing you again when you're all settled out here. I've been recovering from Oasis and just got caught up on your other thread.

Dr. Z's place is right at the very edge of Redondo Beach near Palos Verdes, so it's a perfect place for you to start out. You're lucky, I was having to commute from Dr. Z's to UCLA on 405 -- about 1hr45min each way! Besides being a swell guy who's fun to hang out with in his own right, Dr. Z's home offers two very cool things: a large tiki bar, and a large cat.

As far as getting settled in that area, I can't really help you there -- I was only there for a few weeks, and now I live a world away in LA where the rents are probably not what your average person would consider reasonable. If you'll be working in Palos Verdes, your options will be much more varied than mine were. If you want to live near the water it will be on the pricier end, but if you are looking for something affordable, you should have no problem as you go inland toward Torrance. Another reason to consider going inland: that area is a looooong ways from the nearest freeways, about 20 mins. You may want to live a bit closer to the freeway. That area is really like living in a small town -- if you're living & working there, and you like the small town life, there's no reason to leave the area very often. However, if you're a big city girl like me, be prepared to spend a lot of time in your car.

Hope that helps!

I had it all backwards -- the best bed is the one that's stumbling distance from Tiki-Ti, or the Mai Kai, or the Lagoon Room, or the Alibi, or the Kon Tiki, or...
